For 38 years, the heart of Harrison County Extension has been Gary Guge. Since beginning his extension career as a 4-H youth staff member, Gary has been a tireless supporter and promoter of 4-H. Whether it’s making the Harrison County Fair an exceptionally positive learning experience for all of the participants and parents or serving as adult sponsor for dozens of 4-H trips, camps and conferences, Gary makes sure that youth have countless opportunities to grow in 4-H.
Gary, who is a master at pooling resources, arranged one such opportunity with a local agriculture company. 4-H’ers of Harrison County were allowed to harvest beans and corn off a research plot that eventually provided the funding to build a new bathhouse structure at the County Fairgrounds as well as providing for trip and camp scholarships. Gary Guge exemplifies the tradition of making 4-H a great place where adults make a difference in helping youth grow.
