Dale became a leader of the Riverton Good Cheer 4H Club because of his love of youth and his belief in developing their skills and abilities. He enjoyed the selection process of projects. He shared with the kids, “It costs just as much to feed a good animal, as it would a poor one, so always look for quality when selecting your projects.” He looked forward to the work that went into getting ready for the February and June club tours – when families went from farm to farm to see the members’ projects and to share in the fellowship of the picnics and potluck meals that followed. He enjoyed seeing members learn parliamentary procedure, conduct meetings, and giving demonstrations. He delighted in the accomplishments of the club members as they had their projects and demonstrations selected to go on to Iowa State Fair. He loved attending the November Award Night and watching 4H’ers receive recognition for their hard work and was a chaperon for the Chicago Award Trip. Dale went from farm to farm to help 4H’ers learn how to clip and groom their beef projects just before fair.
Dale served on a committee responsible for the purchase of land for the Floyd County Fairgrounds and the construction of a new building each year after for 5 years. His three children, Roger, Linda, and Vicky, and his 11 grandchildren have all been active 4H members for the 8 or 9 years they were eligible.
