Janet Vinson began her 4-H days as a teenager in Winnebago County. Monthly meetings and fair time were high points of this time as was a trip to the State Fair with a team demonstration. Janet is a graduate of Iowa State College. During one summer, she filled in as County Extension Director for Monroe County while the regular director went on a sabbatical to England. County fair time was an interesting time during that summer.
Janet has been active as a 4-H club leader in Des Moines county for 16 years. She has been a long time member of 4-H Youth Committee, a Teen Council Advisor, a faithful helper at many county fairs and an active volunteer for many years at our annual Junior 4-H Winter Camp, held at the local Girl Scout camp. First elected in 1997, she is currently serving her second four-year term as a member of the Des Moines County Extension Council. In this official capacity, she serves as a strong supporter and steward of the Des Moines County 4-H program.
As a 4-H club leader, Janet has had a significant impact on the lives of the many young people who were members of her club and our county program. Working with youth has been a continuing area of interest for her as shown by her 4-H work, her substitute teaching in the local school system for many years and through her church work.
