Vi married Joe Palmersheim in February 1939, and they raised four children – Jack, Jim, Barbara, and Bill – who were all nine-year 4-H members. She helped her husband Joe organize the Jacksonville Jolly Juniors 4-H clubs for boys in 1950, for which he was the leader for many years. Joe received silver, gold, pearl, diamond and emerald pins for years of service. He passed away in September 1997.
Vi was the leader of the Jolly Jinx girls 4-H club for many years. Her family received the Chickasaw County 4-H Family award in 1959. They also chaperoned 4-H members to the Chicago Livestock Exposition, many 4-H camps at Boone, and other places. Vi received the Master Farm Homemaker Award in 1964 sponsored by Wallace Farmer.
Vi worked as the Office Assistant at the Chickasaw County Extension Office for 23 years and retired in 1982. According to Vi, she thoroughly enjoyed all her years in 4-H work, and she has many good memories from them.
