Wendell Chastain, long-time 4-H volunteer, is affectionately known to several generations of Wayne County 4H families as "Wink". Wink has been announcing the annual 4-H & FFA livestock shows at the Wayne County fair since 1958. When he first started announcing shows, the livestock was shown in an open-air fenced-in ring. While not a 4H member himself, Wink served as assistant club leader and served two different terms as a 4-H committee member. He was named an honorary 4-H member and was a fair board member for almost 50 years. When asked, Wink stated that in regards to the hours and hours of volunteering with 4H and the county fair - "I've enjoyed every minute of it and I've met a lot of nice kids!"
