C.J. Gauger is a 34-year Cooperative Extension Service veteran who served as Story County Extension Director from 1951-1956 and later guided Iowa’s 4-H Youth Development Program as State 4-H Leader from 1959-79. During his tenure, C.J. worked on a national 4-H leadership team to lay the foundation for life skill development that continues to evolve today. In addition he:
• Stimulated the growth of innovative organizational strategies and multiple delivery methods for Extension 4-H Youth programs.
• Fostered youth as partners in the design and execution of county and state
4-H programs, including the Story County Builder's Club and State 4-H Officers and Council
• Guided the evolution of Iowa’s Extension 4-H Youth Development profession
• Personally mentored hundreds of Story County and other 4-H’ers to successful and fulfilling lives and careers
