Joanne Fahrenkrog is one of the most dedicated volunteers that the 4-H program has ever had. Her commitment to helping young people has been a daily commitment for all of her life. Joanne has instructed thousands of youth about gardening in ways ranging from 4-H workshops to a phone call from a 4-H’er planting a garden.
As a 4-H club leader, Joanne had the ability to interact with youth and be their friend, yet still remain on the sidelines guiding the education. The heat of the county fair never deterred her from spending hours helping 4-H’ers learn from the judging process.
Many Iowa 4-H’ers have learned the importance of good record keeping from Joanne’s workshops. She has been a role model for several generations of young people. Her legacy will be the wide range of learning that she helped young people experience, all done with a warm smile.
