When one speaks about 4-H and the 4-H programs in Osceola County and the volunteers that make it happen, the Eggink family name immediately comes to the forefront. Charlie and his wife Leona have been faithful 4-H leaders for a combined 41 years, Charlie for 23 and Leona for 18. Charlie’s mother, Mrs Herman Eggink [deceased] served as a 4-H leader in the county for 31 years.
Charlie continues his service and as a volunteer to the youth program by being active in the dairy show at Aksarben, where he serves as a dairy superintendent. Charlie and Leona annually take a group of county dairy exhibitors to the Aksarben show to compete in the dairy shows. Due to the efforts of leadership exhibited by Charlie and Leona, the Osceola County group has been awarded the Dairy Herdsmanship Champion award for at least the following years:
1977-1978-1979-1980-1981-1982-1983-1984-1985-1987-1988-1989-1994-1995-1996-1997-1998-1999-2001.
It would be a tremendous honor for Osceola County to have Charlie and Leona inducted to the Hall of Fame.
