2002 Mitchell County - Mary JohnsonMay started Extension work in Mitchell County in October of 1942 as the Home Economist, with 10 years off from 1945 to 1955 to raise her children.  In 1966, May assumed the duties of 4-H and Youth leader for the county.  She served in this role until her retirement in 1980.  Most recently, May organized the 4-H Centennial Committee in Mitchell County and the Centennial celebration held during the Mitchell County Fair.

May is a tireless worker dedicated to the mission of Extension and 4-H.  As an Extension staff person, she held workshops, conducted camps, trained leaders, and inspired youth to become their best.  May was and still is committed to the mission of 4-H and doesn’t hesitate to pitch in when needed.

Today’s 4-H families in Mitchell County are 4-H families because of May’s influence.  Mitchell County is proud to have her representing the county in the 4-H Hall of Fame.
