Roger Baldwin has had a lifetime involvement with the Iowa 4-H program. He began as a 4-H alum from Jasper County and participated in many 4-H opportunities both in state and out of state. Roger was a National 4-H Congress delegate and was the first IFYE from the United States to go to Costa Rica. Roger graduated from Iowa State University in 1961 by attending college every winter quarter until his final year.
Following graduation, Roger worked as a county extension director in Buena Vista and Ida Counties before going to Lyon County in 1962. He served as the Lyon County extension director for 30 years.
Roger has some very special ties to the Iowa State Fair. He began working with the State Fair 4-H exhibits after the end of World War II when the exhibits were located under the grandstand and continued on when the 4-H exhibits moved to their current location. Roger even served as a security guard in the exhibit building – sleeping with the exhibits. Roger served on the State 4-H Exhibit staff for over 15 years.
Roger’s wife Evelyn was a county home economist and they have three sons who were involved in the 4-H program.
