Ernie was a lifelong resident of Lee County. He was a true leader in the sheep industry. Ernie was well known for his outstanding sheep locally, on the state level and earned recognition on the national level as well. Ernie contributed greatly to today’s sheep industry by setting industry standards that are still in place today. Ernie was the first to show Shropshires at the state fair that we would refer to today as slick shorn.
Ernie assisted many, many young 4-H and FFA members initiate sheep projects and provided guidance and education by judging sheep shows from the local to the national level. Ernie would also hold judging workshops on his farm for Lee County 4-H members.
