Richard and Marilou Gay have contributed thousands of hours to the youth involved in the Johnson County 4-H program. They believe strongly in a 4-H program that stresses “youth development.” Positive, forward-looking, encouraging, thoughtful, caring, and progressive describe the attitudes that Richard and Marilou have contributed to Johnson County 4-H.
Marilou has served as a 4-H leader, member of the Johnson Co. 4-H Youth Development Committee, garden superintendent at the Johnson County fair, and a judge for local achievement shows and county fairs. Richard is the current Johnson Co. Fair Manager; he works with the fair board in making decisions to support and encourage a diverse 4-H program. The Gays have been donors to the Johnson Co. 4-H program and the Iowa 4-H Foundation.
Marilou and Richard are also incredibly involved in the Iowa City community, including Project Green, the Johnson Co. Historical Society, the Chamber of Commerce, and the First Presbyterian Church. The Gays have provided a lifetime of service to their community and county. Their children and grandchildren are involved with 4-H and ISU Extension programs.
Through their outstanding work, “can-do” attitude, and “extra” effort, Marilou and Richard Gay have helped the Johnson County 4-H program grow, expand, and be innovative in meeting the needs of youth.
