Juanita Bray is part of a 4th generation of 4-H leaders. Her grandmother, her mother, and her eldest daughter have all served as volunteer leaders. When asked about her years of volunteering, Juanita stated, "Most memorable is being able to help young persons who have trouble communicating. Drawing out a youth who just can't talk and getting them to talk freely makes me feel great!"
Juanita has contributed to the growth and development of Iowa communities in cooperation with Extension programs by judging 4-H exhibits at Iowa county fairs for over 21 years and serving as chaperone for Clothing Selection & Fashion Revue with the SE Area 4-H'ers at State Fair. She has also regularly attended area & state meetings.
Juanita has provided leadership and motivation to others while promoting an educational environment in Jefferson County by her following activities:
• Served as a 4-H leader for 30 years
• Served on Jefferson County Extension Council for 20 years
• Volunteers at Jefferson County Fair on exhibit judging day to help and answer questions
• Served on 4-H & Youth Committee for 6 years
• Served on Jefferson County Extension Council Personnel Committee and Budget Committee, and Referendum Committee twice.
• Held office of Secretary for Jefferson County Extension Council for past 8 years
• Judges county and local achievement shows for 25 years.
As a result of Juanita's efforts in Extension she has been recognized at the State Fair for 25 years of service working with youth, has been recognized as Outstanding 4-H Leader in Jefferson County and received the State 4-H Alumni Award in 1991.
