J. Verald Brown has been an active part of the Franklin County 4-H program over his lifetime. He is currently one of the oldest 4-H alumni in Franklin County. As a youth, he was involved in 3 project groups and livestock judging. He was a member of V.B. Hamilton’s successful judging teams. Verald was state 4-H Boys Club President in 1933 and was also named Champion 4-H boy, receiving a trip to Washington, D.C.
Verald has been a state and national leader in the purebred swine industry, and received the county 4-H Alumni Award. His children and grandchildren have all been active Franklin County 4-H members and held leadership positions. He is one of two people instrumental in building and maintaining a 4-H and FFA wing to the Franklin County Historical Society.
