Frances Hill Graham has been a dedicated volunteer all of her life. The former Linn County 4-H’er (from 1935 to 1942) married John Graham and moved to a farm near Hawkeye, Iowa, in 1947. Frances served as a volunteer 4-H club leader of the Alpha Clover Leaves girls club for 25 years beginning in 1948. Any second thoughts about being a 4-H leader are wiped out when former 4-H’ers express gratitude for all she did for them while they were in 4-H. They especially thank her for stressing the importance of record keeping and record books! Her favorite 4-H memory is attending the 1940 International Livestock Exposition in Chicago as a state winner in Home Furnishings.
Frances continues to be deeply involved in community service activities. As a charter member, she helped to create the Fayette County Historical Society 26 years ago. Frances continues in an active role as a volunteer today. She recently volunteered hundreds of hours to archive and preserve 4-H artifacts and prepare a 4-H history for microfilming.
The Fayette County 4-H and Youth Committee highly recommends Frances Graham from West Union as an inductee into the Centennial Class of the Iowa
4-H Hall of Fame.
