Emmet Wolf has been involved in Cherokee County 4-H for over 60 years. He was in 4-H as a youth and served as a 4-H club leader from 1944 to 1988. Emmet has helped 4-H and 4-H’ers in many ways.
Emmet served on the Cherokee County Fair Board for many years and was a strong advocate for 4-H members. He also has been the 4-H Swine Superintendent for over 40 years. During the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, Emmet helped raise funds to build the 4-H livestock barns at the Cherokee County and Plymouth County fair grounds.
Emmet has sold or donated feeder pigs to 4-H’ers in northwest Iowa for them to use as 4-H projects. He has promoted and taught swine showmanship to several generations of 4-H’ers. Emmet also initiated the showmanship trophies and recognition program in Cherokee County. Emmet has been instrumental in bringing a variety of skilled livestock judges to the fair. He has also assisted in training 4-H livestock judging teams in Cherokee County.
Emmet is very easy going and humble. He always works behind the scenes and stays in the background. He feels very strongly about 4-H and the youth of Cherokee County.
