Iowa 4-H Foundation to honor 4-H supporters at 2023 Legacy Awards
Award recipients announced

AMES, Iowa— The Iowa 4-H Foundation is proud to announce the honorees to be recognized at the Iowa 4-H Legacy Awards Gala. The Legacy Awards celebrates Iowa 4-H and recognizes those who have made an important impact on the program. Slated for 6:00 p.m. Friday, February 24 at Toast in Ankeny, this signature fundraising event will showcase Iowa 4-H and raise funds to support the Program. 

The evening will feature interactive 4-H exhibits, dinner and awards ceremony. Throughout the course of the evening, four supporters of the 4-H Program will be honored: 

  • Corporate Partner: Kemin
    For more than 20 years, Kemin has provided meaningful support to the Iowa 4-H Program through the Foundation. Kemin is also supportive of career exploration offering tours and other interactive opportunities for 4-H’ers to engage with the company.
  • Individual Supporters: Harold & Sue Peyton
    Harold & Sue Peyton, of Sac City “bleed green” and are long-time supporters of the Iowa 4-H Foundation. Sue, a 4-H alum from Oklahoma spent her career in Extension and 4-H before moving to Sac County to farm with Harold, a Sac County 4-H alum.
  • Outstanding Alum: O. Kay Henderson
    Long-time Iowa journalist and Taylor County 4-H Alum O. Kay Henderson grew up near Lennox. Through her 4-H career she showed cattle, sewed and participated in communications. She was one of three founding members of the Radio Iowa network newsroom. She is currently News Director for Radio Iowa. Kay can also be seen as host of Iowa Press on Iowa PBS.
  • Contributing Youth: Sasha McCoy
    Warren County 4-H’er Sasha McCoy has made the most of her 4-H career, participating in county, state and national 4-H opportunities. With a focus on community service, Sasha has led many efforts both in her local club and through the State 4-H Council. 

“We look forward to the Legacy Awards Gala every year to share the impact of the Iowa 4-H Program,” said Emily Saveraid, Iowa 4-H Foundation Executive Director.  “Not only do we get to highlight 4-H’ers, but we get to tell inspiring stories from our supporters.” 

Attendees will have an opportunity to make a contribution to support Iowa 4-H during the dessert auction. Dollars raised support the Iowa 4-H Foundation’s mission to fund 4-H youth programs delivered by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and to provide other opportunities-- state recognition, national 4-H trips, college scholarships and special programs, which enhance the Iowa 4-H experience.

Event admission is $125 a person or $1,000 for a table sponsorship, which includes admission for eight.
