Award recipients announced
AMES, Iowa— The Iowa 4-H Foundation is proud to announce the honorees to be recognized at the Iowa 4-H Legacy Awards Gala. The Legacy Awards celebrates Iowa 4-H and recognizes those who have made an important impact on the program. Slated for 6:00 p.m. Friday, February 23 at Prairie Meadows in Altoona, this signature fundraising event will showcase Iowa 4-H and raise funds to support the Program.
In addition, this event kicks of the 75th Anniversary Celebration for the Iowa 4-H Foundation.
The evening will feature interactive 4-H exhibits, dinner and awards ceremony. Throughout the course of the evening, four supporters of the 4-H Program will be honored:
- Outstanding Partner: Iowa State University. As Iowa’s Land Grant University, ISU is responsible for the development and implementation of the 4-H Program in Iowa. Iowa State University was also a critical partner in the creation of the Iowa 4-H Foundation, in 1949.
- Individual Supporters: Barb & Steve Determan. Long-time 4-H Club Leaders, volunteers and supporters, the Determans have been caring adults in the lives of hundreds of Sac County 4-H members. In addition, Barb served as President of the Iowa 4-H Foundation Board.
- Outstanding Young Alum: Mitchell Hora. Mitchell Hora is Founder/CEO of Continuum Ag, a soil health data intelligence company. Mitchell is a Washington County 4-H Alum.
- Contributing Youth: Justus Myers. For Woodbury County 4-H’er Justus Myers, service to community comes naturally. Through her time in 4-H, she has found ways to give back to her community and meet the needs of individuals regardless of their circumstances.
“We look forward to the Legacy Awards Gala every year to share the impact of the Iowa 4-H Program,” said Emily Saveraid, Iowa 4-H Foundation Executive Director. “Not only do we get to highlight 4-H’ers, but we get to tell inspiring stories from our supporters.”
Attendees will have an opportunity to make a contribution to support Iowa 4-H during the dessert auction. Dollars raised support the Iowa 4-H Foundation’s mission to fund 4-H youth programs delivered by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and to provide other opportunities-- state recognition, national 4-H trips, college scholarships and special programs, which enhance the Iowa 4-H experience.
Event admission is $125 a person or $1,000 for a table sponsorship, which includes admission for eight.
Registration must be made before February 19. The event is presented by Iowa Farm Bureau, Kemin and Nationwide.
The Iowa 4-H Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides private financial resources to develop and deliver quality 4-H youth programs to over 100,000 young people throughout the state of Iowa.
These programs and opportunities help enhance 4-H’ers’ ability to use critical thinking, leadership, communication, and social skills. More information at www.iowa4hfoundation.org.
