Award recipients announced
AMES, Iowa— The Iowa 4-H Foundation announces the honorees to be recognized at the 5th Annual Iowa 4-H Legacy Awards Gala. The Legacy Awards celebrates Iowa 4-H and recognizes those who have made an important impact on the program. Slated for 6:00 p.m. Friday, February 28 at the Ron Pearson Center in West Des Moines, this signature fundraising event will showcase Iowa 4-H and raise funds to support the Program.
The evening will feature interactive 4-H exhibits, dinner and awards ceremony. Throughout the course of the evening, four supporters of the 4-H Program will be honored:
The partnership with Nationwide began over 10 years ago when they began sponsoring ways for 4-H youth to showcase their projects. 2020 marks the fifth year Nationwide has been a Presenting Sponsor of the Legacy Awards, specifically sponsoring the Outstanding Alumni Award.
4-H has been a way of life for Chuck & Mary Morris. Both participated and excelled in 4-H as youth and even met at State 4-H Conference. Chuck has served the 4-H Program in almost every role possible for 37 years, including director of the 4-H program June 2004 - December 2012. Chuck and Mary continue to be supporters of Iowa 4-H through the Iowa 4-H Foundation.
Eric Hanson grew up on a farm in Story County and is an 8-year alumni of the Howard Rockets 4-H Club. Eric is now known for his morning anchor role at KCCI Channel 8 and his work telling stories of Iowans on his “This is Iowa” segment. Not only is Eric an excellent representation of Iowa 4-H, he continues to use his platform to share about and promote the 4-H Program.
Kristina Goth, a Cherokee County 4-H’er has taken the idea of service to another level. What started as making a toiletry roll-up bundle for the homeless has turned into Kristina inspiring many others to sew, start their own service projects, and join in on her mission. Kristina also had the opportunity to take this project all the way to Skid Row in Los Angeles.
“Each year, the Legacy Awards Gala gives us the opportunity to share the impact of the Iowa 4-H Program through the stories of our honorees,” said Emily Saveraid, Iowa 4-H Foundation Executive Director. “We hope that the honorees inspire others to think about their own 4-H stories and how they might give back to help continue to provide outstanding 4-H opportunities in Iowa.”
Attendees will have an opportunity to make a contribution to support Iowa 4-H during the dessert auction. Dollars raised support the Iowa 4-H Foundation’s mission to fund 4-H youth programs delivered by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and to provide other opportunities-- state recognition, national 4-H trips, college scholarships and special programs, which enhance the Iowa 4-H experience.
Event admission is $125 a person or $1,000 for a table sponsorship, which includes admission for eight.
Registration must be made before February 17. More information on the Gala and registration can be found at www.iowa4hfoundation.org/awards. The event is presented by Iowa Farm Bureau, Kemin Industries and Nationwide.
The Iowa 4-H Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides private financial resources to develop and deliver quality 4-H youth programs to nearly 100,000 young people throughout the state of Iowa.
These programs and opportunities help enhance 4-H’ers’ ability to use critical thinking, leadership, communication, and social skills. More information at www.iowa4hfoundation.org.
