Supporters gather to celebrate the Iowa 4-H Program
AMES, Iowa – Iowa 4-H supporters gathered on February 22 to celebrate and honor four award recipients at the 2019 4-H Legacy Awards Gala. The event not only raised significant funds to support the work of the Iowa 4-H Foundation, it acknowledged those who have impacted the Iowa 4-H Program and showcased the talents of 4-H’ers from across the state. At the end of the evening, over $130,000 was raised to support Iowa 4-H.
The event moved to a new location at the Ron Pearson Center in West Des Moines. Presenting sponsors of the event were Iowa Farm Bureau and Nationwide and Iowa 4-H alum, KCCI Anchor Eric Hanson, returned as Master of Ceremonies. The Legacy Awards honored:
Contributing Youth: Kaylee Rivera
Kaylee uses the communications and leadership skills she has gained through her involvement in 4-H to make a positive impact on her peers. Kaylee was a representative for the Be Strong Bullying Program and Love Yourself Project, advocating for bullying prevention.
Outstanding Alum: Charles Sukup
Charles Sukup is committed to giving back. Through his volunteer service and role as President of Sukup Manufacturing Co., Charles is an outstanding example of the type of leader the 4-H Program produces. He was inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame in 2011.
Individual Supporter: Dean & Adele Bowden
Dean & Adele believe in the 4-H mission as 4-H alums from Buchanan County. The Bowdens have provided support to 4-H on the state and county levels and recently made a generous gift to Clover Woods Camp & Retreat Center.
Corporate Partner: Hills Bank & Trust Co.
Hills Bank & Trust Co. has a long-standing commitment to the 4-H Program. For nearly 20 years they have provided their innovative leadership grant, in addition to support they provide in their local communities.
“We were overwhelmed again by the stories told by our honorees and the generosity of our supporters,” said Emily Saveraid, Executive Director of the Iowa 4-H Foundation. “You can’t help but leave this event feeling confident in our future through Iowa 4-H.”
The evening connected 4-H supporters with current 4-H’ers from across the state providing interactive exhibits and taking photos.
