Iowa 4-H supporters gathered on February 28 to celebrate and honor four 4-H supporters at the 2017 4-H Legacy Awards Gala. At the end of the evening, over $113,000 was raised to support Iowa 4-H.

Supporters gather to raise funds to support Iowa 4-H

AMES, Iowa – Iowa 4-H supporters gathered on February 28 to celebrate and honor four 4-H supporters at the 2017 4-H Legacy Awards Gala. The event not only raised significant funds to support the work of the Iowa 4-H Foundation but also acknowledged those who have impacted the Iowa 4-H Program and showcased the talents of 4-H’ers from across the state. Iowa 4-H Alum and KCCI Anchor Eric Hanson was the evening’s Master of Ceremonies. Presenting sponsors of the event were Iowa Farm Bureau and Nationwide. At the end of the evening, over $113,000 was raised to support Iowa 4-H.

The Legacy Awards honored:

Contributing Youth: Jacy McAlexander

Jacy has used his personal experience with cancer along with his 4-H skills to educate others and advocate for cancer research while raising funds to support the Ronald McDonald House.

Outstanding Alum: Allie Lansman

As the National 4-H Healthy Living Ambassador, Allie promotes a healthy lifestyle and the 4-H Program to young people throughout Iowa and across the country.

Individual Supporter: Shirley Stakey

A former member of the State 4-H Staff, Shirley continues to support Iowa 4-H’ers through her volunteer work, coordinating the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame and funding a 4-H college scholarship.

Corporate Partner: Meredith Corporation

Supporters of the 4-H Program since the early twentieth century, Meredith Corporation has provided support for the Iowa 4-H Center and created the Loren Kruse Outstanding 4-H Leader Award.

“We were thrilled with the success of this event,” said Albert Grunenwald, Executive Director of the Iowa 4-H Foundation. “It was a great night to focus on the positive impact that 4-H has on the lives of Iowa’s youth and to honor those who have shown their commitment to the future of 4-H in Iowa. Funds raised from this event will help support Iowa 4-H’ers and provide financial resources to the Iowa 4-H Youth Program.”

The evening featured entertainment and interactive exhibits from 4-H’ers from across the state.
