AMES, Iowa – On Friday, June 17, the Iowa 4-H Foundation hosted their 5TH annual Going for the Green golf tournament at the Emerald Hills Golf Club in Arnolds Park. The event hosted 34 teams and nearly 150 players. Following the tournament was a live auction which raised almost $100,000.

The money raised will support the Iowa 4-H Foundation as well as fund two $1,500 scholarships for 4-H’ers from Northwest Iowa counties. This year, the two recipients were Anna Ehlers, Buena Vista County, and Brady Butters, Woodbury County.

“We look forward to the Northwest Iowa Golf Tournament every year because we get to raise money to support the youth who make Iowa 4-H such a strong organization,” said Albert Gruenenwald, Executive Director of the Iowa 4-H Foundation. “The money from this tournament helps lower costs for 4-H’ers to participate in local programs, camps and other state and national 4-H events.”

Teams teed off at 12:30 p.m. and enjoyed best ball, putting and hole contests throughout the afternoon. Following a day on the greens, an evening program began at 6:30 p.m. with a social, brief program, auction and a ribeye steak dinner.

“There is no way this golf outing would be so successful and beneficial to Iowa 4-H without the generosity of our sponsors,” said Bob Butcher, Northwest Iowa 4-H Golf Benefit Committee Chair. “We are so fortunate to be surrounded by 4-H supporters who helped sponsor the event, donated an auction item or provided the meals today.”

The Presenting Sponsor for the 2016 event was DuPont Pioneer.

This year’s Tournament Sponsors included Carroll County State Bank and Community Bank, Curry Seed, The Scoular Company, Stine Seed, Syngenta and Wyffels Hybrids.

The Hospitality Sponsors were Cornelius Seed, First Coop Association, LG Seeds, Dekalb Asgrow First Coop, Nor-Am Cold Storage, Northwest Bank, Producer’s Livestock, Quad County Corn Processors and Ronda and Harry Edwards.
