Tom Nicholson to serve as president of Iowa 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees

AMES, Iowa- The Iowa 4-H Foundation announces that Tom Nicholson was elected president of the Board of Trustees at its annual meeting Friday, October 16, 2015 held at the Hertz Farm Management corporate office in Nevada, Iowa.

Serving his fifth year on the Foundation Board, Nicholson began his 4-H career as a Central Trail Blazers 4-H member in Calhoun County and was a member of Calhoun County Council and State 4-H Youth Council. Nicholson raised and showed beef cattle and the county and state level. He also attended many State 4-H Conferences and National 4-H Conference.

“Through 4-H, I developed a passion for raising and showing livestock and gained other valuable skills in leadership, communication and teamwork that I’ve been able to apply in my personal life and throughout my professional career,” said Nicholson. “My 4-H experience has provided me an opportunity to meet and share a common interest with many leaders in agriculture and other industries.”

Nicholson is an Iowa State University alum and is currently the president of Passport Food Safety, LLC in Johnston. Nicholson and his wife, Sheri, who was a Johnson County 4-H’er, reside in Indianola.  Their daughter and son are both actively involved in Warren County 4-H.

"As a 4-H alum and parent, Tom understands the value of the Iowa 4-H experience and the Foundation's important role to support 4-H opportunities for all young people in our state," said Albert Grunenwald, Executive Director of the Iowa 4-H Foundation.  "Tom will challenge all of us to commit our resources to make the Iowa 4-H program stronger."

Nicholson will lead a 24-member board that provides the vision and fiscal oversight for the Iowa 4-H Foundation. The Iowa 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees is comprised of volunteers from both the public and private sectors who are leaders in their respective fields.

“I’m proud to work with a board of trustees and staff who are dedicated to the Foundation’s mission of providing opportunities for youth development and supporting 4-H programs throughout the state of Iowa,” said Nicholson.

The Iowa 4-H Foundation provides the private financial resources to develop and deliver quality 4-H youth programs throughout the state of Iowa. These opportunities help young people enhance their ability to use critical thinking, leadership, communication, and social skills – tools that will give them a competitive edge in their future endeavors.
