Bigelow to Serve on Iowa 4-H Foundation Board

Jessica Bigelow is selected as Youth Trustee of the Iowa 4-H Foundation.

AMES, Iowa-  Jessica Bigelow of Urbandale was selected to serve as a youth trustee on the Iowa 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees at its annual meeting Friday, October 16, 2015 held at the Hertz Farm Management corporate office in Nevada, Iowa.

Jessica Bigelow is a junior at Johnston High School and is a Polk County 4-H’er. She has been a member of the Valley Pacers 4-H Club for eight years, serves as a member of State 4-H Youth Council and has served on the Senior and Intermediate County Councils in Polk County.  Bigelow has made it a personal goal to complete an exhibit project in all 4-H project areas before she graduates from high school. Jessica attends Johnston High School where she is a member of National Honor Society, the Silver Cord Program and the soccer, cross-county and bowling teams. She has also participated in the Iowa Youth Congress and serves on the Student Leadership Board for Meals for the Heartland. Upon graduation, Bigelow plans to attend Iowa State University and major in Business with a minor in Communications with future aspirations of being a CEO of a non-profit organization.

“Because of my 4-H experience, I have grown tremendously; from someone who was shy and timid to a well-rounded peer leader,” says Bigelow.

“Jessica will represent one of two 4-H youth voices and votes on our board," said Albert Grunenwald, Executive Director of the Iowa 4-H Foundation.  "We look forward to the 4-H passion and experience she will bring to our discussions.”

Along with one newly elected trustee, Bigelow joins a 24-member board that provides the vision and fiscal oversight for the Iowa 4-H Foundation. The Iowa 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees is comprised of volunteers from both the public and private sectors who are leaders in their respective fields.

The Iowa 4-H Foundation provides the private financial resources to develop and deliver quality 4-H youth programs throughout the state of Iowa. These opportunities help young people enhance their ability to use critical thinking, leadership, communication, and social skills – tools that will give them a competitive edge in their future endeavors.
