Varner to Serve on Iowa 4-H Foundation Board
Current Iowa 4-H member, Kaitlyn Varner is selected Youth Trustee of the Iowa 4-H Foundation.
ANKENY, Iowa- Kaitlyn Varner was elected youth trustee of the Iowa 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees at their annual meeting on Friday, October 17, 2014 held at the Iowa Soybean Association in Ankeny, Iowa.
Kaitlyn Varner is a senior at Northwood High School in Worth County. She is a second year member on the State 4-H Youth Council and also served on the Worth County Council. Other involvements include District Advisory Committee, Student Council, FCCLA Chapter President, FCCLA District 2 President and National Honor Society. She received the 2014 Youth Citizen of the Year award and was crowned 2014 Worth County Fair Queen.
“4-H has shaped me into the person I am today and has given me endless opportunities,” says Varner about her 4-H involvement. Varner plans to attend Iowa State University in the fall of 2015.
“We are committed to giving 4-H youth a voice and a vote on our board,” said Albert Grunenwald, Executive Director of the Iowa 4-H Foundation. “Kaitlyn’s vision, creativity, and leadership offers us the innovative insight we need from current 4-H’ers to continue to make their 4-H experience better.”
Along with three other newly elected trustees, Varner joins a 27-member board that provides the vision and fiscal oversight for the Iowa 4-H Foundation. The Iowa 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees is comprised of volunteers from both the public and private sectors. The current board is represented by: Iowa State University Extension and Outreach staff; business owners and professionals; agricultural community leaders; 4-H volunteers; and State 4-H Council representatives.

The Iowa 4-H Foundation provides the private financial resources to develop and deliver quality 4-H youth programs throughout the state of Iowa. These opportunities help young people enhance their ability to use critical thinking, leadership, communication, and social skills – tools that will give them a competitive edge in their future endeavors.
