AMES, Iowa- Tee time meant more than swinging the golf clubs; it meant raising money for Iowa’s 4-H Youth. The Central Iowa 4-H Foundation Golf Benefit, held on July 21, had golfers swinging over $25,000 to support Iowa 4-H through the Iowa 4-H Foundation.
Hyperion Field Club in Johnston, Iowa was host to 16 teams of 63 golfers. Teams teed off at 12:30 p.m. and enjoyed best ball, putting and hole contests throughout the afternoon.
“Spending a day on the golf course while supporting Iowa 4-H’ers- what could be better?” says Doug Den Adel, Jacobson Companies and Iowa 4-H Foundation Trustee. “I am honored to give back to an organization that gives so much to help 4-H youth across the state. Jacobson was just one of many proud sponsors on the course."
Despite the humidity and high heat index, the golfers took to the beautiful course at Hyperion for an afternoon of friendly golf followed by a cool evening social. Awards were given to the team with the best score, and to the individuals with the longest drive and longest putt. Caleb Lichty, a 4-H’er from Story County, spoke to the tournament attendees, sharing with them his 4-H story, the skills he gained from 4-H, and thanked them for their support.
“We always have a fun day with our 4-H supporters in central Iowa,” says Albert Grunenwald, Chief Operating Officer of the Iowa 4-H Foundation. “They come with energy and enthusiasm to support to help us to ‘make the best better’ for Iowa’s 4-H Youth.”
Funds raised from this event will go to support financial assistance to help families pay their 4-H membership fees, attend State 4-H Youth Conference and participate in 4-H Camps. Funds also benefit national opportunities such as National 4-H Congress and National 4-H Conference. Over $12,000 benefited 4-H members from Central Iowa directly through these programs during the past year. Photos from this year’s event can be found at www.flickr.com/iowa4h.
