FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Iowa 4-H Foundation hosts 3rd Annual Golf Benefit for Iowa 4-H

AMES, Iowa- It’s all about the “green”. Whether green makes you think of the environment, money, golf or 4-H, the Northwest Iowa 4-H Golf Benefit on June 20, 2014 had it covered. Golfers took to the greens on Friday, June 20 to raise money for Iowa 4-H. The beautiful golf course at Emerald Hills Golf Course in Arnolds Park, Iowa hosted 28 teams of 112 golfers.

Organizers raised a net total of over $60,000 to support Iowa 4-H youth development programs, the event’s highest total to date. Teams teed off at 12:30 p.m. and enjoyed best ball, putting and hole contests throughout the afternoon, as well as homemade cookies provided by Sac County 4-H members. Following a day on the greens, an evening program began at 5:00 p.m. with a social, brief program, auction and a ribeye steak dinner.

The auction featured many unique packages, including various sport packages for Iowa State University and Iowa sporting events. Golfers and their guests also had the opportunity to bid on other valuable auction items including family portrait photo session, a quarter beef, seed corn or soybeans, group dinner at an award winning Northwest Iowa restaurant, athletic memorabilia and many other items donated by supports of 4-H.

“We always have a fun day with our 4-H supporters in northwest Iowa. Each year they raise more money than the previous year to help make the best better for Iowa 4-H’ers,” says Albert Grunenwald, Chief Operating Officer of the Iowa 4-H Foundation. The tournament sponsors help to underwrite the major costs of hosting the benefit golf outing. Their support enhances the opportunity to raise significant funding for 4-H youth to participate in local programs, camps, state and national 4-H events.

“We are overwhelmed to see the support for Iowa 4-H from Northwest Iowa. The Golf Benefit is a great opportunity to bring together local 4-H supporter for a great cause. We want to thank all for the companies who helped us sponsor this event or contributed an item for the auction and meal events, says Bob Butcher, Northwest Iowa 4-H Golf Benefit Committee Chair.

Tournament sponsors for the 2014 event include: DuPont Pioneer/Holstein Ag Services, LLC; Elanco Food Solutions; Northwest Bank/First National Bank; Ronda & Harry Edwards in memory of Robert J. Butcher; Stine Seed and local Stine Seed dealers; and Syngenta/Jim Peterson Seed.

A number of Hospitality and Gold Sponsors also supported the Northwest Iowa 4-H Golf Benefit, providing resources to help make the day a memorable one for everyone participating.  2014 Hospitality sponsors include: The Acre Company; Brad Brown Trucking & Fertilizer, LLC; Matt Otto DeKalb Seed; Producers Livestock; Quad County Corn Processors; Renze Seeds; and Scoular Company. 2014 Gold Team sponsors include: Community Bank; and Peoples Bank.

Funds raised from this event will go to support financial assistance to help families pay their 4-H membership fees, attend State 4-H Youth Conference and participate in 4-H Camps. Funds also benefit national opportunities such as National 4-H Congress and National 4-H Conference. Over $14,000 benefited 4-H members from Northwest Iowa directly through these programs during the past year. Photos from this year’s event can be found at www.flickr.com/iowa4h
