FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Northwest Iowa 4-H Golf Benefit Scheduled

It’s all about the “green”.   Whether green makes you think of the environment, money, golf or 4-H, the Northwest Iowa 4-H Golf Benefit on June 20, 2014 has it covered.  With “Going for the Green” as the theme of the event at Emerald Hills Golf Course at Arnolds Park, organizers will raise more than $60,000 to support Iowa 4-H programs, awards and events.  Experiencing the environment and beautiful golf course in Arnolds Park and raising money to support one of Iowa’s most important youth development programs provide a win-win situation for the golfers and sponsors of this third annual event.

Bob Butcher, Executive Vice-President of Community Bank of Holstein and a cattleman in Ida County, is chairing the event with his wife, Connie, on behalf of the Iowa 4-H Foundation.  Butcher said, “We are particularly pleased to have a top group of Tournament Sponsors who have stepped up this year to help us host a successful golf benefit.”  The financial support of the tournament sponsors helps underwrite the major costs of hosting the benefit and enhances the opportunity to raise significant funding for 4-H youth to participate in local programs, camps, state and national 4-H events.  The tournament sponsors for 2014 include: Northwest Bank, headquartered in Spencer; Ronda and Harry Edwards in memory of Robert J. Butcher, DuPont Pioneer-Holstein Ag Services, Syngenta-Jim Peterson Seed of Washta, Elanco Animal Health and Stine Seed and local Stine Seed dealers

Thirty-five teams are already signed up for the golf benefit, most of them from western Iowa.  With registration beginning around 10:30, golfers will enjoy a lunch buffet sponsored by Tiefenthaler Quality Meats of Holstein and First Co-op of Cherokee.  The Clay County Cattlemen will grill the burgers and brats for lunch.

The tournament will include best ball, putting and hole contests throughout the afternoon, as well as homemade cookies provided by Sac County 4-H members.  There will be both individual and team prizes awarded during the evening program.  Golfers and their guests will also have an opportunity to bid on some valuable auction items, including ISU vs. KU basketball tickets, a family portrait photo setting, a quarter of beef, seed corn or soybeans from sponsoring companies, athletic memorabilia, athletic ticket packages from ISU and Iowa, a group dinner at an award-winning NW Iowa restaurant, and many other items donated by supporters of 4-H.  The evening events begin around 5:00 with a social time, a brief program, auction and a dinner featuring ribeye steaks and all the trimmings.  Dickinson County Cattlemen will handle the evening grilling assignment.  Although all the team slots for the benefit have already been reserved, 4-H supporters are most welcome to participate in the evening activities by contacting Butcher at 712 830-7372.

A number of Hospitality and Gold Sponsors are also supporting the Northwest Iowa 4-H Golf Benefit, providing resources to help make the day a memorable one for everyone participating.  2014 Hospitality Sponsors include: Producers Livestock of Omaha, Scoular Company of Kansas City, Quad County Corn Producers of Galva, Monsanto-Matt Otto Seed of Holstein, The Acre Company of Spencer/Brown Fertilizer of Webb and Prairie Brand Seed-Eric Nelson of Moville.  Gold level sponsors include: Peoples Bank of Rock Valley, Farmers Savings Bank of Fostoria, and Community Bank of Holstein.  In addition, each of the teams entered in the golf benefit also has the support of a company sponsor.

“Many of the agricultural and business leaders throughout Iowa and the country have experienced the benefits of 4-H programs,” said Butcher.  “Personally, 4-H helped me choose a career path and continue my education beyond high school.  My participation in 4-H programs and events was so significant that I want to be sure today’s young people have those same opportunities through ISU Extension and Outreach and the county Extension offices.  The Iowa 4-H Foundation exists to raise money for 4-H programs benefiting Iowa youth.  We want to thank all the companies who are helping us sponsor this event or are contributing items for the auction and meal events.  We welcome all donations to make this Northwest Iowa 4-H Golf Benefit successful.”
