2013 Sac County - Darold Jacbson

Sac

Darold was a member of the Eureka Eden boys’ 4-H club from 1945 to 1949, where he participated in market lamb, market litter, breeding beef, and purebred litter. Even though he was only in 4-H his last five years of school his fondness for 4-H continued to grow.

Darold was a leader of the Eureka Hawkeyes from 1967 to 1976, and he has supported 4-H ever since. He would do anything to support kids involved in the program in general, whether it was financially, by sponsoring 4-H’ers in the bonus auction, or with his hands, improving the livestock building on the fairgrounds.

Darold joined the Sac county Fair Association Board in 1972 and served as the president 25 years. Darold’s motivation to serve on the fair board has been his continuing support for 4-H and his desire that 4-Hers have a place to show their exhibits.

He was a driving force to open the Sac county Fair to surrounding county 4-Hers and FFA members, making it more of a district fair. He has continued to try to increase the numbers of livestock entries to keep the fair competitive for the kids. Maintaining the quality and opportunities for the 4-Her at the county fair is very important to him, and he continues to support the 4-Hers through his service on the board to this day.
