2013 Crawford County - Dwight Boeck

Dwight Boeck was born and raised on a dairy farm in Crawford County and comes from a strong agricultural background. He graduated from Iowa State University with a Dairy Science Degree. When he completed college, he decided to make his home north of Denison and fulfilled his dream of working with dairy.   To this day, with his wife Carolyn, he continues his love of being a dairy farmer. Dwight’s father, Virgil, was a strong supporter of his 4-H background. Last October, Dwight lost this influential person.

Dwight began 4-H when he was 10 years old and has been involved with 4-H for the past 50 + years by attending the county fair and helping when he can with 4-H activities. He was a member of the Good Handy Helpers 4-H club in Crawford County. He was an active member of 4-H Youth Council and served as president. Dwight encouraged his 4 children and also several nieces and nephews to join the Good Handy Helpers 4-H Club when they were old enough.

Dwight was a FFA member and has been a huge supporter of the Crawford County Fair where he has enjoyed assisting his own children as well as many others with 4-H projects. He made it possible for his children to experience Ak-Sar-Ben in Omaha, NE where they learned to show in a larger environment.

He assisted the leaders of the Good Handy Helpers 4-H club for many years. He served as dairy superintendent and supported the regional 4-H and FFA Dairy show. He has been poultry superintendent for 20 plus years. He served on the 4-H and Youth Committee for 20 plus years. Once again, he is a leader for the Good Handy Helpers 4-H club with his grandchildren enrolled.

Dwight and Carolyn have been members of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison since their marriage. He has served on the Zion Lutheran School board for 15 years. He has been on the church stewardship committee along with serving on various other church committees and participating in various school activities. Dwight is a member and has served on the Board of Directors of the Associated Milk Producers Inc. (AMPI), which is a dairy marketing corporation.

Dwight is always willing to help with activities, weigh-ins, fruit sales and whatever we ask him to do.   He will continue the tradition of supporting 4-H as he encourages his grandchildren, great nieces and nephews and others to get involved and learn more about 4-H and what it has to offer
