Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame Inductees

2013 Carroll County - Virginia Hagemann

Virginia Hagemann has been volunteering for the Carroll County 4-H Youth Development Program for over 40 years. She was a co-leader for the Jollyettes. The club name changed to Jolly Jays and in 1998 the club merged with the Jolly Jets. In 2001, Virginia joined as co-leader for the Halbur Lads and Lassies 4-H club.

Virginia's many years of leadership has allowed her to offer a wealth of knowledge to leaders and members. Virginia always encourages the members to participate in communication events and she especially enjoys the "Share the Fun" presentations. Her expertise in Parliamentary Procedure results in orderly meetings and offers a great training environment for the club members.

She has many years of judges training and county fair judging experience which makes Virginia a great resource for members and their parents at fair time. She judges at many county fairs and volunteers each year to serve as a comment writer at our static exhibit event.

She sets a great example to the members in terms of meeting attendance. She attends club meetings, community service events, county trainings, Youth Committee, and Extension Council meetings to stay informed of current events.

Virginia is always willing to help out with the club projects. She can be found sorting 1400 plastic eggs for the Easter Egg Hunt or clipping thousands of coupons, worth many dollars, for the military exchange program.

Virginia has seen many changes with the 4-H program over the last 44 years, but she is always willing to adapt to meet the changing needs of the 4-H program. She is a great supporter and promoter of the 4-H program and is proud to be associated with the program. She will congratulate a parent on the successes of a former member as she reads about their accomplishments or hears of their good work.
