2012 Sioux County- Terry Hooyer

“It’s all about the kids.”

For those of us who work and volunteer within the 4-H organization, those are familiar words.  For Terry Hooyer, those words are a lifestyle.

Since 1972 Terry has volunteered his time, money, animals, expertise, advice, help, and more to the 4-H program, more specifically, to 4-H’ers.

Sioux County may be Terry’s home county, but his generosity and influence does not stop with family nor at the county line.  4-H’ers in many counties have Terry to thank for a livestock project; rabbits, poultry, sheep, goats and more.  Along with the animal there is usually advice and encouragement, and always some good-natured kidding.

Beginning in 1972 as a club leader for the Plato Pluggers
4-H Club, Terry’s 40 years of volunteering has gone on to include serving as a superintendent for sheep, rabbitt and poultry.  He currently is a member of the Sioux County Extension Council and the 4-H Youth Committee.

The 4-H program depends on caring adults, like Terry Hooyer, to help our youth reach their full potential.
