2012 Worth County- Alan Stevens

Alan Stevens has been a long time supporter of the Worth County 4-H program in a number of ways. All of his children were extremely active 4-H members of the Deer Creek Wohelos and Ribbon Takers 4-H Clubs for all the years they could be members of 4-H. They had a wide array of projects including food and nutrition, clothing, small engines, swine, beef, and tractors just to name a few. Alan’s club leader work with the Deer Creek Ribbon Takers Club extended on to the Worth County 4-H Committee where he served for a number of years as an adult mentor and advisor to a number of Worth County ISU Extension Staff Members. He provided much guidance and advice for 4-H programming in the county. His support was also realized through resources he provided to the Worth County 4-H Foundation by donating a couple of swine from his farrow to finish operation to the County 4-H Pig Roast fundraiser for a number of years.

Alan was very instrumental in serving as treasurer of the Worth County Extension referendum committee in 1992. His efforts helped Worth County Extension receive the second largest referendum approval rating in the state on its first attempt of getting voter approval. In recent years Alan has continued to serve the Worth County 4-H program by providing affordable high quality feeder pigs to 4-H Swine project members from throughout the county. He has also been an excellent volunteer in the 4-H Junior Swine Show serving as the  announcer of the show for the last several years.

Alan has served on a number of commodity boards and has been a well respected community servant in a number of community and church groups. He has also been named farmer of the year by our local Jaycees organization and recognized as a Master Iowa Farmer by the Wallace’s Farmer Magazine.
