2012 Mills County- Scott Hillyer

Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame Inductees

2012 Mills County- Scott Hillyer

After eight years as an active 4-H member, Scott Hillyer developed a passion for sharing the benefits of the 4-H program with others. His experiences in 4-H helped prepare him for his first career as owner and operator of his own dairy herd and business, and taught him the value of being involved in the community.

As a young adult, shortly out of school, Scott began volunteering in his church and community.  He served on Extension Council and on the Mills County Youth Committee for multiple terms.  He then jumped in to become assistant leader of his past 4-H club, the Future Feeders.  He went on to become the organizational leader, committing 15 years as mentor and role model to 4-H youth.  He has exceptional ability to help youth identify and develop their talents and gifts.

Mr. Hillyer expressed that his years as a 4-H leader were a privilege.  He had great support from families, and enjoyed watching these young people mature and become productive men and women in their communities.  He humbly believes he learned more from them than they did from him. Through his example of strong character, and his quiet way of reassuring, encouraging and assisting these youth, they developed their own pillars of character that they now assimilate in 4-H, church and community.

With a solid foundation of moral standards and family values, a framework of character-building through 4-H, and a strong religious faith as the roof, Scott has built a life of service to his family and community.  Mills County is proud to induct Scott Hillyer into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame.
