2012 Marshall County- Jodi Breniman

Jodi Breniman started her career in the beef industry at the age of five when she showed her first heifer at the National Cattle Congress in Waterloo, IA.  She has been hooked ever since.  Jodi was a nine year 4-H member of the Melbourne Livestock and Merry Mams 4-H Clubs in Marshall County. She was very active in showing beef all nine years along with having several non-livestock projects.  She had a non-livestock exhibit selected to go to the Iowa State Fair for eight years straight.  Jodi loved to refinish furniture and bake in the kitchen with her grandma and mom.  But her real passion was to be in the barn with her grandpa and dad working on her show heifers.

Jodi graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1982 and attended Marshalltown Community College.   She remained active in the county helping out other 4-H members with their projects and in 1984 she became a member of the Marshall County Beef Committee.  Jodi stayed close with her Melbourne 4-H Club as well and became an assistant leader and eventually in 1996, a leader with her mom, Patti.  She currently still holds this position. Also, in 1996 Jodi became the Marshall County Beef Superintendent and still is today. Jodi was one of the first beef superintendents in the state of Iowa to start the Bottle/Bucket Calf class for younger exhibitors to learn more about a beef project.  She is always very willing to help out any exhibitor with a beef project or any project area, if they ask.  Most weekends you will find Jodi in the barn with two, three or more 4-Hers who want help with their calf or to teach them showmanship techniques.

Jodi has also served on the following committees in Marshall County.  4-H Youth Development Committee from 1987-2000. She was then the representative from Extension on the Central Iowa Fair Board from 1992-2006. She became an executive board member of the fair board in 2006 to the present date.  She is currently the Vice President of the Central Iowa Fair Board and this year’s chairperson of the county fair planning committee.  Jodi was also an advisor for the Iowa Junior Beef Breeds Association from 1996 to 2009.

Jodi continues to live in Marshall County and owns an acreage in Melbourne, Iowa where she raises show calves and has a cow-calf herd.  She is an office manager at Miller Middle School and continues to work with the youth of Marshall County.
