2011 Delaware County - Jack & Gladys Tinker

2011 Delaware CountyJack and Gladys Tinker have been long time supporters of 4-H in Delaware County.  Jack was a member of the Elk Chargers 4-H club and later served as club leader for 15 years.  Much of that time, he was the only leader for a group of 26 boys, which was one of the county’s largest groups. During those years and the years his children were 4-H members, he helped at beef and swine weigh-ins and at those livestock shows at the county fair.  He continues to help at the Beef show with the Delaware County Cattlemen.

Gladys served as club leader for the Greeley Go Getters 4-H club for 15 years, judged at club achievement shows and helped judge county record books, selecting the county senior awards as well as helping at the Northeast Area 4-H awards in Fayette. She continues to serve as a judge’s helper at county fair.

Their six children were all active 4-H members from 1968 – 1989 for a total of 21 years. They served on county 4-H Councils, gave presentations at the county and state level and were active on the 4-H livestock judging teams.  They showed beef, dairy, horses, swine and rabbits at the county fair and also helped fellow club members who exhibited sheep. Their 4-H projects included Clothing, Food and Nutrition, Home Improvement, Citizenship, Health, Safety, Babysitting, Photography, Plant Science, Recreation, Junior Leadership, Career Exploration, Money Management, Tractor, Conservation and Automotive.  They also enjoyed the County-wide 4-H Basketball tournament. The couple received the Delaware County Meritorious Service to 4-H award in 1983.
