2011 Grundy County - Janet Schildroth

2011 Grundy CountyJanet Schildroth has been involved in 4-H since she was a little girl growing up in Black Hawk County. She participated in a variety of projects such as cattle and  home economics and was involved in demonstrating at the fair.  She was also a club president.   Janet and her husband Mel have 2 children, Scott & Jodi.  Her children were involved Grundy County 4-H at the county and state level.  Janet encouraged her children to participate in beef, swine, home economics, demonstrations, share the fun and clothing review. She has also encouraged her grandchildren to be involved in 4-H.

Janet was a leader of the Black Hawk Echos 4-H club for at least ten years.  During her time as a 4-H leader she had a very large, active and enthusiastic group of girls.  Janet organized community service projects and exposed the girls to several different project areas.  She also made sure that everyone did one demonstration each year and helped them with their communication skills.  This was very important to her!  Janet had guest speakers come to meetings to speak with the girls, took them on field trips and tours so that they could learn new things and apply them to their daily lives.  She also made sure as many of her club members as possible were involved in and participated in as many club and county activities as possible.  She supported each member and helped them to better themselves.

Janet and her husband Mel have been very active throughout the years with several county and state organizations, as well as church activities.  Janet has been a substitute teacher in the area for many, many years and has continued to encourage kids to be the best that they can be!  When it comes to kids and encouraging them and supporting them, there is no one who compares to Janet!

Janet enjoyed going to the Iowa State Fair for several years to see her kids and grandkids exhibits as well as look at all the new and unique exhibits on display.  She still gets excited about all the different things kids are doing in 4-H today.

One thing we can remember is that if Janet was going to have you do something you – were going to have to do it right!  Janet Schildroth continues to be an encouragement to young people and is remembered by the alumni and youth who were touched by her example in 4-H and school!
