2011 O'Brien County - Mark Hansen

2011 O'Brien CountyMark Hansen was a valuable part of the O’Brien County 4-H program for over 30 years.  As a member of the Center Farmers 4-H Club, he understood the importance of contributing to “my club, my community, my country and my world”.

His love for livestock and farming grew through 4-H and after attending college, he returned to farm the family farm.  He became a leader for the very 4-H club that he belonged to.  His enjoyment for horticulture led to one of his favorite projects – planting trees with his Center Farmer 4-H Club.   He also organized the planting of a butterfly garden at a local park and played a vital role in cleaning up an old railroad bed to serve as a walking trail.  This became O’Brien Counties ISU Sesquicentennial project in 2007.

Mark never missed a day of the county fair.  From cleaning up the grounds in preparation, to running a panel in the hog show ring, Mark was always there to help make the O’Brien County Fair a success. He was a friend to all, and so enjoyed the time spent at the fair visiting with all those who shared his love of agriculture.

The knowledge he shared and the encouragement he gave to the youth he worked with, will have a lasting effect as they continue on in life.  Mark Hansen was an integral part of the O’Brien County 4-H program that makes it such a success today.
