2010 Washington County - Pat Greiner

Pat GreinerPat Greiner of Keota, Iowa has been actively involved with Washington County 4-H and Fair for 35 years.  Growing up there were no 4-H clubs in Pat’s area so he wasn’t able to have the 4-H experience as a child, but as an adult he has been very actively involved.  Pat and his wife, Shirley, have three children, Sid, Kim and Ted, all three of his children grew up in 4-H and were actively involved.  Pat can remember taking his children to their first club meeting in 1975.   He stayed for the meetings and it wasn’t long before Pat was asked to help with the group and it wasn’t long after that, Pat was the leader of the Dutch Creek Flyers 4-H Club in Washington County.

Pat continued as leader for 15 years till his children graduated.  He then became a member of the Sheep Committee; he became actively involved and has served as Sheep Project Leader and Sheep Superintendent.  Pat continues to be a co-superintendent of the sheep department.  He has also served as a member of the Washington County Fair Board for a number of years.  Pat’s family has been very involved with showing at the county, state and national level.

Through Pat’s involvement he has had the opportunity to be involved from four roles, parent, leader, committee member & Fair Board Member and has enjoyed every part of it.  Pat said his greatest highlight is all of the wonderful people he has met throughout Washington County, the State of Iowa and nationally.  He treasures all the friendships he has made and the opportunities his children have had.  Pat knows his involvement in 4-H has not benefited him financially, but it has benefited him and his children very socially, gained wonderful experiences and relationships.
