2009 Keokuk County - Marie Lucille (Dyson) Atwood

2009 Keokuk County - Marie Lucille (Dyson) AtwoodMarie (Dyson) Atwood joined 4-H in 1934 as a member of the Adams Hustlers 4-H Club, she served as County Secretary/Treasurer, and has continued to be involved to this day.  She was a leader of the Stick-to-It 4-H Club from 1965 -1982 during which time four of her five daughters were members.  Her mother, Pearl (Kirkpatrick) Dyson was an original member of Cap E. Miller’s Home Culture Club, a forerunner to today’s 4-H clubs.  She has received the “Recognition for Meritorious Service to 4-H” award.  Marie, 89, has stayed active by exhibiting in the open classes at the Keokuk County Expo and by sponsoring trophies for the Expo 4-H exhibiters.
Being strongly involved in 4-H is a heritage that has been passed down from Marie’s mother to her, to her children (her youngest daughter is a leader of two 4-H clubs) and to her grandchildren who are active 4-Hers.  Their membership continues this heritage and support of 4-H which Marie has always believed in.
