2009 Monona County - Irene Lantz

Irene LantzIrene Lantz was recognized for 30 years of volunteer service to the Monona County 4-H program earlier in 2009.  She has made a valuable contribution to youth as a 4-H club leader, and 4-H county fair superintendent for clothing and clothing events.  Irene was a 9-year member of 4-H in Woodbury County where she participated in the home economics project areas as well as communications and swine.  Her highlights included being elected as the county 4-H vice president at the county rally and earning participation at the state fair with a team 4-H demonstration on bread baking.  She also had a table and chairs selected for state fair and the table is still used in the family today.  Irene’s husband, Leland, is a long-time Monona County farmer and has served on the Monona County Fairboard since 1980.  All four of their children were active 4-H members.  They now have ten grandchildren and they are just getting old enough to join 4-H and becoming active as well.  Irene has also worked toward positive development of youth through her career and the community.  She taught home economics for nearly 20 years in schools in and around Monona County.  She has also been active in her church providing leadership as Bible School director, women’s bible study leader, choir director, and board member.  Irene enjoyed farming with her husband and gardening and is now enjoying retirement spending time on home decorating, gardening and family.
