Richard Vorthmann is a perfect example of a lifetime 4-Her. From his first projects at age 10, to serving the West Pottawattamie County 4-H program another 78 years, he has been instrumental, helping to build most of Westfair’s current livestock facilities, and other annual improvement projects. He has served as 4-Her, leader, mentor, beef committee, livestock sale committee and worked the beef show ring until recently. Richard has done so much behind the scene work before the fair, besides the fairground improvement projects, that usually goes unnoticed, from cleaning underneath the scales to power washing the bleachers. Richard’s 3 children and 7 grandchildren have all been, or are still very active in Iowa 4-H .
