2007 Mills County - Tom Pollock

Tom PollockTom Pollock and his wife, Helen, have raised three sons on their farm south of Malvern. Tom was a 9 year 4-H’er in Mills County.

Tom has been an indispensable volunteer for Mills County 4-H for nearly three decades.  He has been a 4-H leader for 25 years, touching and enhancing the lives of hundreds of youth.   He is always willing to go the extra mile to help others, volunteering to lead workshops such as FSQA and officer training, and attending leader trainings so that he is well prepared for any new changes brought to the 4-H program.  Over the years, Tom has served as Swine Superintendent for the Mills County Fair, and has been an active member of Youth Committee, Extension Council, and the Mills County Fair Board.

Tom’s commitment to youth can be seen in the way he interacts with families and youth in his community and at the county level.  His calm and patient character enables him to connect with youth and adults in a very positive manner, encouraging them to succeed in 4-H, their schools and their communities.  He gives one hundred percent of himself when involved with any group.  This commitment and leadership to 4-H and ISU Extension has continued even after his own children have graduated and moved on.

Tom truly represents the definition of volunteer, one who offers himself of service of his own free will.  He is an outstanding example of 4-H at its best.
