2006 Page County - Bruce Ketcham

Bruce KetchamBruce Ketcham was an active member of the Tarkio Soil Tillers 4-H Club for 10 years. In 1965, Bruce won the Grand Champion Baby Beef with a 1,030-pound Hereford. His champion steer “soared over all previous top selling prices, going to Nodaway Valley Packing Company for 61 cents a pound.”

Because of his love of livestock and commitment to 4-H, Bruce started as the Page County Beef Superintendent in the early 1970s. He has been a dedicated leader for more than 35 years. Bruce is always improving the show experience for the youth. In 2004, Bruce expanded the Beef show by adding a Market Heifer class.

Bruce has been an advocate for the 4-H program through his involvement with the Page County Cattlemen’s Association. He has organized efforts with the Cattlemen to give every beginning 4-H beef exhibitor a show halter, to build an awning for the show arena, to make the show arena handicap accessible, to rewire the beef barn, and to provide scanning of calves at the fair.

Besides being the Beef Superintendent, Bruce was selected to join the Page County 4-H Honorary and Alumni group. He has served in several positions on the executive committee and helped with fundraising for scholarships.
