2005 Clinton County - Leonard Goettsch

Leonard GoettschLeonard Goettsch was a person who showed leadership behind the scenes. He was a solid influence on many Clinton County Youths.  He developed relationships with many youths and adults through the beef program.  Everyone could depend on him to help or brighten their day with a sense of humor that will never be matched.  To Leonard relationships meant more to him than any awards achieved.

Leonard Goettsch reflected the 4-H pledge by incorporating the importance of “head, heart, hands and health” into his daily activities.

Head: Leonard gained knowledge of farming and exhibiting cattle by being extremely observant.  He discussed and learned from fellow exhibitors and personal experience.  He was a self-taught cattle herdsman and could recognize quality calves when they were very young.  He shared his knowledge with young exhibitors and their families.

Heart: Leonard loved people and life.  He could make any task seem like fun regardless of its difficulty.  He was passionate about living each day to its fullest.  This attitude was contagious to those around him.  Life was more fun with Leonard.

Hands:  Leonard worked full time off-the-farm and farmed with his brother.  He was extremely organized and efficient in managing his time.  As a steward of the land, he used no-till farming practices to conserve soil and resources.  Leonard was a very hard worker.

Health: Leonard loved his wife and daughters unconditionally.  He enjoyed raising cattle, showing cattle and farming with his family.  He was an active participant in community and church activities.  Leonard lived a life of joy and was grateful for his blessings.

In summary, Leonard always tried to “Make the Best, Better."
