2021 Chickasaw County Leah Schwickerath

Leah Schwickerath has been dedicated to the Chickasaw County   4-H Program for 18 years and countless hours. Leah's 4-H career started with her own membership to the D&R Clover Leaf Club. During her time as a 4-H member, she was involved in many different projects at the achievement show. These projects included home improvement, sewing, gardening, food and nutrition, and clothing selection. She has a fond memory of an angel food cake project making it to State Fair.

Once Leah's daughters, Sara, Susan, and Barbara, were old enough to join 4-H, Leah was involved at the club level from the start. Leah served as a club leader of the Devon Dreamers 4-H Club of North Washington for 11 years. Together the club successfully completed many service projects such as putting American flags up at the North Washington Cemetery for Memorial Day and cleaning up the Chickasaw County Fair Grounds. Leah also enjoyed chaperoning a 4-H exploratory trip to South Dakota with her middle daughter.

Leah continued to serve as a 4-H club leader until her youngest daughter graduated from high school. She then transitioned to being a Youth Development Committee member in 2017. Since beginning this role, she has continued to serve as an active member and has participated on many committees, served as a record book judge, and was an integral part of coordinating the 2020 Fall Awards Banquet for Chickasaw County.

In 2018 Leah and her family were awarded 4-H Family of the Year.

Outside of the 4-H program Leah is a cook at the New Hampton School District. Together with her husband, Neal, they raise cattle, soybeans, and corn. In Leah's spare time she enjoys being outside and spending time with her daughters.
