Merrylea Clasing of Emmetsburg has made a positive impact in the lives of many 4-H’ers in Palo Alto County. She has been a member of the Palo Alto County Extension Council for the past 14 years where she has held the offices of treasurer and secretary. She also has represented the Extension Council on the Palo Alto County Youth Committee since 1993.
While on the Youth Committee, Merrylea has reviewed many 4-Hers’ record books and interviewed many 4-Hers interested in participating in activities outside of the county, and in both cases, using many kind words of encouragement. Besides her committee work she volunteered her services as an achievement show judge for a number of years and gave demonstrations on making bread at a number of 4-H club meetings in the county. She has worked in some capacity at the fair every year for the past 13 years until last year when her health wouldn’t allow it. She has also chaperoned the Citizenship Washington Focus Trip to Washington D.C.
In 1984 Merrylea was honored with an Alumni Award at our annual Awards Banquet. In addition, Merrylea has provided much support and encouragement for her grandchildren in our 4-H program. Palo Alto County is proud and fortunate to have Merrylea as part of our 4-H program.
