2020 Monona County: Judy Mulder

Judy Mulder loved the outdoors and children. She was involved in Girl Scouts when younger and worked at Girl Scout camps in the summers between college semesters.  She hadn’t even heard of 4-H. Judy Mulder

She was raised in Oelwein, Iowa, where she attended school and graduated.  After receiving her degree from the University of South Dakota in Early Childhood Special Education, she moved to Mapleton, Iowa, where she taught preschool children with special needs at Maple Valley School in Mapleton for 30 years until she retired.

Judy was a member of the Mapleton Fisher-Whiting Friends of the Library board, on the Mapleton Rebuild and Recover board, involved in the Senior Companion program, along with being very active in her church.  Judy became involved with 4-H when she came on the 4-H Youth Committee in 2005 and served until 2018.  She was a leader of the Mapleton 4-H Clover Kids from 2006 until 2011, stepping down because of other commitments, but helped with meetings and camps.

In 2015 she was awarded as Honorary 4-H member for Monona County.  Judy passed away in 2019, losing her battle with cancer, but this lady had a great impact on many children, her community, church, and the many organizations she supported.
