This year’s Benton County Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame inductee is a person who truly believes in the lifelong benefits of 4-H.
John Holst is a Benton County 4-H alumni and began his life-long love for 4-H in the Eden Blue Racer 4H club. We’ve heard many stories of his “Fur Handling” presentation of trapping, harvesting a muskrat, and dressing a rabbit for an Iowa State Fair demonstration. He was one to participate in a variety of “interesting” communication experiences.
John also participated actively in the livestock show ring exhibiting sheep, hogs and rabbits. He also attended in the coveted 3 day Chicago Trip.
It seems John had a number of interesting experiences both as a youth member and as a club co-leader “chaperoning” a hayride with some law enforcement guidance. Further details were not included in this account!!
John has also served many terms on the Benton County 4-H Foundation Board, has been a 4-H Committee member, Fair Livestock Superintendent and Extension Council member. For years of support, John was awarded the County 4-H Honorary member recognition. Thank you for the many ways you have supported the Benton County 4-H program.
John Holst truly exemplifies the meaning of 4-H. He might even “Bleed” Green
