2004 Calhoun County - Anne Holtorf Birt

2004 Calhoun County - Anne Holtorf BirtAnne Holtrof couldn’t wait to be a 4-Her, so as soon as she turned nine she joined The North Butler Blazers 4-H Club in Calhoun County.  As a 4-H’er, Anne participated in a wide variety of project area but her favorites were Personal Development, Child Development and Swine.  She earned many awards in the Swine Project area at the County, District and State levels.  Anne had several exhibits advance to the State level including a game to help Kindergarten age kids learn colors, a sweatshirt she made for her younger brother, several canned items and more.  She was chosen to participate in Share the Fun and Working Exhibit at the State Fair as well.

While a 4-H member, Anne was very influential in recruiting new members.  She would encourage everyone she knew to join and would tell them that 4-H has something for everyone.  Once Anne convinced someone to join she continues to help them anyway she could.

Anne graduated and went away to college, but she returned each summer to help with the Swine show at the county fair.  Anne’s love for 4-H showed as she assisted young 4-Hers get their swine ready for the show ring.  She would offer encouragement and support and give tips on showmanship.

Unfortunately, Anne was in an accident in 2001 and lost her life.  Her positive attitude and smile will always be remembered by the 4-H’ers in Calhoun County.
